What is J-pop?

Japanese pop is a musical genre that has been part of Japanese pop culture since the mid-twentieth century. 

History:

It all began in the early years of the Showa era (1920s to 1980s) with ryūkōka, a form of popular music influenced by Western jazz and blues. 

J-pop is highly different from Western and other forms of Asian pop. 

J-pop genres 

Folk, jazz, pop-rock, idol pop and vocal ballads 
it is highly radio friendly and can be access from around the world 

Popularity 

J-pop is no where near a famous as K-pop (Korean pop) because the Japanese music industry has little international investment
